I heard this brilliant discussion on Radio National’s “All in the Mind” program the other day – The Second Brain. It’s about the importance of gut health for mental health. It seems to be a current topic, as I also saw German author Giulia Enders recently interviewed on TV about her book Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Under-rated Organ.

Perhaps you, like us in Dancing Wombat land, have been shocked out of your “our diet’s pretty good” complacency by watching “That sugar film”. Or maybe you’re just interested in healthy eating, but are running out of ways to disguise vegetables. There comes a time when force-feeding by “aeroplane” is no longer an option!

Anyway, I’m sure that you’re very aware of the debate around gluten and casein free diets. Perhaps we have read books about people whose lives have been changed by them. Perhaps our own lives have been. Friends of ours have enjoyed the best health of their lives since becoming GF. So my ears pricked up when I heard the discussion around the gut as a “second brain”, and possible links between gut health and neurological disorders ranging from Alzheimers to… you guessed it, autism.

This is a fascinating program and I really recommend that you check out the podcast. I’d love to hear your comments.
