Yes, it’s that time of year again and no, I’m not talking about tax returns! It’s Christmas concert planning!

It’s nutty how anything Christmas related seems to start earlier and earlier, isn’t it?! So, here we are.

This year my class is going to perform Possum Magic – the Musical. Now, Possum Magic already exists as a musical but I’m creating the special edition for special kids. I’ve already composed four songs and my sister (and self-styled musical agent) has already been critiquing the first versions, suggesting ways to jazz it up for my audience. And I’ve been counter-critiquing, explaining to her why I have to do things like adapt the words, tunes and rhythms so my special needs students can manage with memorisation, pronunciation, body movement and the like. It’s a great two-way learning and creative experience for us both.

After that, my digital music resident expert (my older son) will be setting the music to digital platform Garage Band, before I upload the whole lot onto Dancing Wombat and get the kids rehearsing!

Watch this space!
